About Us - Charter Statement
1974- Tanque Verde Lutheran Church.
We believe the Holy Spirit is bringing us together: To fulfill spiritual and human needs, To share with the support of the Lutheran Church in America, Christian love with one another, the community, the world. We commit ourselves to this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Tanque Verde Lutheran Church is an ELCA church located in Tucson
Arizona. The people who formed Tanque Verde Lutheran Church first
began meeting for worship on November 3, 1973. Pastor Bob Linder
was the mission developer. TVLC was officially organized on October
6, 1974, with just over 160 charter members. The first buildings
were completed in 1977, and the main sanctuary was finished in 1989.
The preschool began operating in 1979.
Pastor Nausin our senior pastor, served as Pastor from September of 1982 to July 2002. As of December, as of December 2000, our congregation had grown to more than 2,900 baptized members. Through the years, TVLC has seen itself as an integral part of this community and as a center for spiritual growth, family growth and outreach. It is a mission-oriented church, and includes people from a variety of religious backgrounds.
Pastor Jan Womer served as our Interim Pastor from July of 2002 to October 2003. Pastor Jan led us through the difficult tranistion period calling a new senior Pastor.
Pastor James Cords was called to be TVLC's Lead Pastor. Pastor James began his service in October 2003.
TVLC is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which has 5.2 million members in 11,000 congregations.
