Witness and Outreach

TVLC is an outreach based community of Christ. Match your talents with any of these outreach opportunities or meet with the W&O committee on the second Tuesday of each month in the chapel at 6:30 pm to discuss new ideas for outreach.

Contact the Church Office 749-1606 to learn more about any of these witness and outreach ministries at TVLC.

San Juan Batista This Lutheran mission congregation, located near Bilby Road and South Park Ave., is in need of assistance with leadership support and construction materials for needed improvements. A TVLC committee has been formed to join with the efforts of the synod and focus on the needs of our brothers and sisters at San Juan Batista.

Holiday Food Baskets TVLC feeds local families in need during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter weeks. Each holiday season, TVLC stocks our pantry and that of families in need from our community. The TVLC community brings nonperishable foods to the church and frozen hams or turkeys to a nearby McDonalds for storage. Fresh foods, milk, fruits and bread are included from cash donations. Packing is completed at a collegial event on the Sunday before the holiday week; Fresh food is brought in on the morning of delivery. This fun-for-all event is an important part of TVLC's love for this community.

Children's Christmas Gifts The TVLC Children's Gift Ministry is an extension of the Christmas Food Basket Ministry.  Families in need are identified by the Pima County Health Dept. and TUSD. The name, age, gender and gift preferences are included for the children of the families receiving Christmas food baskets. Volunteers staff a table after each service during Advent and connect the congregation with the opportunity to sign up and provide wrapped gifts. The gifts are returned to TVLC, a volunteer team sorts and bags the gifts, and all are delivered in coordination with the family's food.

VA Care TVLC is blessed by our outreach to the homeless veterans - men and women - in our community. In support of the VA Hospital's outreach efforts, we collect some of their most needed items: new, unopened packages of socks, underwear, and t-shirts (all sizes and colors); hats for sun protection or warmth (may be new or gently used, but must be clean); travel-size toiletry items especially sunscreen, toothpaste, shaving cream; disposable razors; toothbrushes. Look for the collection basket in the narthex to share Christ's love through these most humble of items.

Mobile Meals of Tucson TVLC has long provided for this important Tucson food mission. Our teams work with other congregations and local hospitals to deliver specialized prepared foods to homebound residents. TVLC drivers pick up the meals at Tucson Medical Center to bring them to recipients in need of caring people and special service. Drivers pick up meals, and follow a predetermined route to provide sustenance and a human connection to elderly or disabled recipients. More information can be found at Mobile Meals This ministry is actively seeking drivers - Reach out to enable this ministry to continue.

1st Impressions Greeting visitors and members is an important outreach. We all naturally participate in this loving greeting activity. Do you recall your last friendly greeting? Pick up a welcome ribbon in the narthex and reach out to our members and guests.

Baby Hats Since 2008, many hands have generously supplied baby hats for newborns around the world: in Ghana, Liberia, Madagascar, Uganda, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Namibia, Nigeria. The warmth of these hats saves the lives of many babies. Dr. Mira, a pediatrician from Ghana writes, "We have received so many baby hats to great delight of my workers and mothers. Our hearts have been warmed, as will many newborns, by the generous and loving response to this need." Crochet, knit or purchase - get friends involved. Help us transport hats. Donate hats at TVLC. 10,000 life-saving hats have been delivered and the need continues. Click below to see the pattern and sizes.

School Back Packs Last year we helped four elementary schools, three middle schools and a family working with child services. They were overwhelmed by the generosity of TVLC. This ministry has been helping school children prepare for school each fall for many years. Our community of faith will continue to send our kids to school prepared. School budgets seem to cut things like Kleenex and hand sanitizer while they are still needed in the classroom. Watch for the sales, our teachers need your help to supply the classroom. TVLC learns about needs from the school district and donates school supplies each fall to help equip kids. Our help is needed again every year. Look for notebooks, folders, loose leaf paper, erasers, crayons, pencils, pens (red, black and blue ink), colored pencils, and dry erase makers.

Agua Prieta Family Shelters Join this fun-loving team of practitioners delivering the love of Christ by constructing homes in Agua Prieta Mexico. TVLC members have participated in this important outreach since it began. More information, schedules and photos are found at Agua Prieta Family Shelters
